 Driving Directions To Watauga Lake Cabins:
2702 Draft Rd Butler, TN 37640
You can use MapQuest to get you to the lake, however you will need to follow the directions below explicitly unless you are interested in a long drive in the countryside. Please review before leaving and feel free to clarify any uncertainties with us. Grocery stores are mentioned so that you can conveniently stop on your way in and not have to return to town. Limited groceries are available at the Lake at the Elk Mills, Butler Barn and Dry Hill general stores which also serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and sell fishing licenses and other supplies.
From the East or South
Step 1) Follow Hwy 321 N, thru Hickory, Blowing Rock, and Boone. In Boone you will pass Food Lion, Wal-Mart and several restaurants on the left - Lowe’s, Back Yard Burger and Auto Bell on the right. Hwy 321 will turn four times around Boone – follow the truck route/ By-pass north which is clearly marked.
Step 2) Just before Appalachian State University at a two story Wendy’s, Hwy 321 joins Hwy 421 and 105 – turn left on the By-pass. Immediately after turning left you will see Peabody’s Wine and Beer Merchants (an excellent stop) on the right. A couple miles ahead Hwy 105 continues straight toward Linville and Banner Elk but you will turn right to stay on Hwy 321 & 421 after an Exxon Gas Station. At the next light/ intersection at top of the hill, you will turn left where 321 bypass merges with 321 business route and continue North toward Mountain City.
(Alternatively you can go straight thru downtown Boone/ASU- continue straight on Hwy 321 business and don’t turn left at Wendy’s, pass Blockbuster Video on the left and turn left at the T (stoplight) beside Dan’l Boone Inn. Continue on 321 North).
Step 3) Hwy 321 will turn left one last time at Skate World - where 321 and 421 split. Turn left on Hwy 321 toward Elizabethton (39 miles), Hampton (34 miles), and TN state line (11.2 miles) - DO NOT stay straight on 421 to Mountain City.
Step 4) When you cross the Tennessee State line set your odometer trip meter to zero. Go another 4.3 miles and turn right onto Buntontown Rd, (road signs are frequently down but you will see a sign for Sugar Hollow bed and breakfast). If you turn early on the two previous roads (Gregg’s Branch or Meadowview Rd) like Mapquest suggests, no problem, they will end at a stop sign then turn right on Buntontown Rd.
Step 5) Just a little over 3 miles you come to Pioneer Landing Campground and Marina, veer left and cross bridge over Watauga Lake and dead-end into mountain side.
Step 6) Turn right onto Draft Rd travel 0.7 miles (from bridge) until you see driveway on the right going down to Catfish Cottage, very next driveway on the right is to Bass Bungalow and on the left is the driveway to both Falcon’s Crest and Eagle’s Peak. You will see a wooden sign that says “vacation rentals” with my # 803-524-5185 on left at this drive. For Still Waters, The Raven, Majestic Manor and Thrasher’s Nest go past these driveways and take the next left and follow the paved driveway up the hill –continue straight up the hill past Driftwood Cottage and Hidden Cove – at the top of the hill the first cabin is The Raven (dark Cedar), two lots down Majestic Manor (log), Thrasher’s Nest (right beside it) and just a little further at end of drive Still Waters (log).
From the Northwest
Take I-81 South exit onto either Hwy 91 or Hwy 58 in Abingdon, VA travel to Damascus, then take Hwy 91 from Damascus to Mountain City, TN. (Alternatively you can travel Hwy 421 South from Bristol through Shady Valley into Mountain City – this is the preferred route for motorcyclists that like curvy mountain roads). In Mountain City turn left onto Hwy 421 South toward Boone, NC. Turn right onto Hwy 167 (Food Lion is at this stop light on the left) travel 5.8 miles through little villages of Maymead and Neva then turn left onto Big Dry Run Rd. Travel about seven miles until you see the lake in front of you at stop sign, then turn left onto Dry Hill Rd go 0.7 miles to the bridge over Watauga Lake at Pioneer Landing. Do not cross the bridge but go straight onto Draft Rd follow another 0.7 mile from the bridge to the cabins/cottages (see Step 6 above).
From the Northeast Take I-77 to Hwy 421 in Wilkesboro. Head Northwest toward Boone N.C. / Mtn. City Tennessee. When you enter the town of Boone on Hwy 421 you can either continue straight on 421 Business or turn left and follow the 321/421 truck route Bypass (see Step 2 above). 421 Business is slightly shorter but goes through downtown Boone and App State so certain times may be more congested. In Boone, Hwy 321 and 421 will merge - Hwy 321 will turn left and split from 421 a few miles north of Boone at Skate World. Both Hwy 321 and 421 can take you to cabins (for 321 directions follow Steps 3 through 6 above) Otherwise, continue on Hwy 421 toward Mountain City. Cross the Tennessee state line, in the outskirts of Mtn. City pass Red Tail golf and country club and Suba’s restaurant on your left and Loui’s Beer store on Rt. Turn left onto Hwy 167 (Food Lion is at this stop light on the right) travel 5.8 miles through little villages of Maymead and Neva then turn left onto Big Dry Run Rd. Travel about seven miles until you see the lake in front of you at stop sign, then turn left onto Dry Hill Rd go 0.7 miles to the bridge over Watauga Lake at Pioneer Landing. In Johnson City you'll get on Hwy 321/67 – exit 31, loop around and turn right toward Elizabethton and travel 8.6 miles - you’ll pass a Super Wal-Mart on left then very nice Ingles grocery store on right (you may want to stop for adult beverages), stay on Hwy 321/67 which veers left at Save-A-Lot and then intersects with US-19E and TN-37 (Veterans Memorial Hwy). Turn right at this light by Food City, trip odometer and travel 5.1 miles where Hwy 321/67 turn left at a gas station called Road Runner Market/ Subway sandwich shop) in the town of Hampton. From this stoplight travel 9.5 miles (past Lakeshore Marina, Fish Springs Marina) where Hwy 321 and Hwy 67 split – turn right and stay on Hwy 321. Travel 8 miles (0.9 mile past Elk Mills General Store gas station/ restaurant) you will see a sign that says "Sugar Hollow Bed and Breakfast" - Turn left onto Buntontown Rd, follow Steps 5 and 6 above to cabins. When you cross the Tennessee State line set your odometer trip meter to zero. Go about 3.8 miles and turn right onto Meadowview Road. There is also a sign for Meadow View Baptist Church.
Step 4) Go 0.4 mile to the stop sign at the end and turn left then a quick right onto Sugar Hollow Rd. This road immediately splits – stay to the left on Sugar Hollow and follow 1.7 miles - this road has two sharp left turns. Hidden hide-away is the drive way on the left at the end of the road - gate should be open.
From the West

Travel 8.5 miles (1.4 miles past Elk Mills General Store gas station/ restaurant and half a mile past a sign that says “Sugar Hollow Bed and Breakfast” – Turn left onto Meadowview Rd, follow Step 4 above.
From the Northwest
Take I-81 South exit onto either Hwy 91 or Hwy 58 in Abingdon, VA travel to Damascus, then take Hwy 91 from Damascus to Mountain City, TN. (Alternatively you can travel Hwy 421 South from Bristol through Shady Valley into Mountain City – this is the preferred route for motorcyclists that like curvy mountain roads). In Mountain City turn left onto Hwy 421 South toward Boone, NC. Turn right onto Hwy 167 (Food Lion is at this stop light on the left) travel 5.8 miles through little villages of Maymead and Neva then turn left onto Big Dry Run Rd. Travel about seven miles until you see the lake in front of you at stop sign, then turn left onto Dry Hill Rd go 0.7 miles to the bridge over Watauga Lake at Pioneer Landing. Turn right and cross the bridge then veer right in front of Pioneer Landing Campground and Marina. Go a couple miles and immediately after you pass Meadowview Church Road on the left, make a quick right onto Sugar Hollow Rd beside a little duck pond. This road immediately splits – stay to the left on Sugar Hollow and follow 1.7 miles - this road has two sharp left turns. Hidden hide-away is the drive way on the left at the end of the road.
From the Northeast
Take I-77 to Hwy 421 in Wilkesboro. Head Northwest toward Boone N.C. / Mtn. City Tennessee. When you enter the town of Boone on Hwy 421 you can either continue straight on 421 Business or turn left and follow the 321/421 truck route Bypass (see Step 2 above). 421 Business is slightly shorter but goes through downtown Boone and App State so certain times may be more congested. Step 4) When you cross the Tennessee State line travel another 5.2 miles (cross the Elk River bridge) and immediately turn left beside Elk Mills General Store gas station and restaurant. Pass the Poga Volunteer Fire Department on the left and follow the short bend in Elk River - turn left to cross another bridge then immediately turn right to continue on Poga Rd. You should be on the opposite side of the river from the little stone church. Travel 1.3 miles from the bridge and turn right up your gravel driveway - if you come to another bridge crossing the river you have gone too far - turn around and go to the second drive from the bridge.
From the Northwest

Travel 7.1 miles and turn right between Elk Mills General Store gas station/ restaurant on your right and Poga Volunteer Fire Department. Follow the short bend in Elk River on your left - turn left to cross the bridge then immediately turn right to continue on Poga Rd. You should be on the opposite side of the river from the little stone church. Travel 1.3 miles from the bridge and turn right up your gravel driveway - if you come to another bridge crossing the river you have gone too far – turn around and go to the second drive from the bridge.

Step 4) Travel 13.9 miles on Hwy 67. Turn Left on to Sink Valley Rd. Travel 1.4 mile on Sink Valley Road. Waters Edge will be on your right, the last house before Pappy's Marina. If you reach the marina you have gone too far.
From the Northeast

Go 1.4 mile and Waters Edge Cabin will be on your right just before Pappy's Marina. If you reach the marina you just missed the cabin.
From the Northwest
Take I-81 South exit onto either Hwy 91 or Hwy 58 in Abingdon, VA travel to Damascus, then take Hwy 91 from Damascus to Mountain City, TN. (Alternatively you can travel Hwy 421 South from Bristol through Shady Valley into Mountain City - this is the preferred route for motorcyclists that like curvy mountain roads). In Mountain City turn beside the only Rite Aid drug store in town onto Hwy 67 for 13.9 mile. Turn Left onto Sink Valley Road. Go 1.4 mile and Waters Edge Cabin will be on your right just before Pappy's Marina. If you reach the marina you just missed the cabin.
From the West
Take I-40 East just past Knoxville take I-81 North to I-26 toward Asheville southeast through Johnson City. In Johnson City you'll get on Hwy 321/67 - exit 31, loop around and turn right toward Elizabethton and travel 8.6 miles - you'll pass a Super Wal-Mart on left then very nice Ingles grocery store on right (you may want to stop for adult beverages). Stay on Hwy 321/67 which veers left at Save-A-Lot and then intersects with US-19E and TN-37 (Veterans Memorial Hwy). Turn right at this light by Food City and travel 5.1 miles where Hwy 321/67 turn left at a gas station called Road Runner Market/ Subway sandwich shop) in the town of Hampton. From this stoplight travel 9.5 miles (past Lakeshore Marina, Fish Springs Marina, Shirley's Restaurant) eventually Hwy 321 and Hwy 67 will split. Stay straight on Hwy 67 - cross the Butler Bridge over Watauga Lake then go thru the tiny town of Butler where you will pass The Butler Grill and gas and a bank and the Bayview Campground on your right. Travel 1.8 mile Pass Mile Marker 2 and Claude Matherly Road - looking on your right for Sink Valley Road. Turn right onto Sink Valley Rd. Go 1.4 mile and Waters Edge Cabin will be on your right just before Pappy's Marina. If you reach the marina you just missed the cabin!
